You Are Already Connected — A Simple Way to Deepen Your Relationship with Spirit
When providing spiritual counsel to clients, one of the most common questions I’m asked is: “How can I connect more deeply with Spirit?”
Usually, this question carries a deep longing beneath it—a desire to feel less alone and more plugged into the Universal Energy that moves through all of us. When we feel disconnected from Spirit, we can feel isolated, lonely, untethered, and severed from a deeper felt sense of purpose and meaning.
So, when clients ask me this question, my first response is often simple—and sometimes surprising:
You are already connected to Spirit right now.
There is nothing special you need to do.
There is no one different or new you need to become.
There is nothing you need to change about yourself or your circumstances in order to connect with Spirit.
Who you are, where you are, and how you feel in this exact moment is your point of connection with Spirit.
We have been so conditioned to believe that spiritual connection is found in fancy rituals, the “perfect” morning routine, or becoming as peaceful as possible. In my experience, it’s much simpler than that.
Connecting more deeply with Spirit is simply about being present, honest, and open.
The Present Moment Is the Entry Point to Spiritual Connection
On a practical level, our connection with Spirit deepens when we are honest about where we are and what we’re feeling right now. Honesty grounds us into the present moment—and the present moment is where Spirit lives.
Let me give you a real-life example.
In a recent session with a client, they were experiencing tension with a co-worker. They wanted to connect with Spirit so they could “get out” of the tension with the co-worker.
Those words—get out—matter.
Many of us have been conditioned to relate with Spirit as an escape route: a way to rise above, bypass, or transcend the messiness of being human. But that is not Spirit’s intention for us.
Spirit is not here to help us avoid the tension and discomfort of our lives.
Spirit is here to help us meet it, move through it, and receive the medicine inside of it.
Your Life Is the Curriculum
Uncomfortable moments and relational tension are not interruptions to your spiritual life.
They are part of your spiritual life.
These moments are part of what I often call our soul’s curriculum—specific lessons we are meant to learn in this season, in this relationship, in this body.
We incarnated for the fullness of the human experience. This includes incredible experiences of expansion and wild experiences of contraction—over and over and over again.
As we allow ourselves to feel, process, and integrate these experiences of expansion and contraction, we develop a deeper trust in life and a deeper connection with Spirit’s presence in every moment.
A Simple Micro-Practice to Connect with Spirit
Here is a micro-practice you can do anywhere—no fancy rituals required—to help you deepen your connection with Spirit:
Pause and arrive here in the present moment.
Take one slow breath. Call all of your energy back into your body and into this present moment.
Name something you’d like to receive spiritual assistance with.
Name what you are experiencing in your life and how you are experiencing it. Nothing needs to be different.
Be honest about how it feels.
Name how you honestly feel—hopeful, stressed, joyful, sad, curious, afraid, excited, terrified, filled with wonder. Nothing needs to be different.
Ask for Spirit’s assistance.
If you’d like some guidance with what to say, you could try:
“Thank you for helping me be with this.”
“Spirit, thank you for showing me what my soul is meant to learn from this.”
“Thank you for walking with me in this moment.”
“Spirit, help me see [this person or situation] through your eyes.”
That’s it.
Presence. Honesty. Prayer.
This entire practice can take 30 seconds.
One honest sentence.
One quiet request.
You can do this:
While sitting in your car before going into work
While washing your hands or making tea
Right before responding to a difficult text
Lying in bed at night with your hand on your heart
A Final Note: Spirit Is Here for All of It
Many of us were taught to turn to Spirit only when we are struggling. But Spirit is not reserved for crisis or pain.
Spirit is here for all of it:
Your mundane moments.
Your uncertainty.
Your pleasure.
Your questions.
Your becoming.
Your terror.
Your success, abundance, and prosperity.
Your creative life.
Your doubt.
Every time you return to the present moment with honesty and openness, you are reconnecting with where Spirit has been all along (and always will be): right here.
With care,
Heather
