About Your Therapist
Hi, I’m Heather Waxman. I’m a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Certified Somatic Exercises Instructor, and Certified EFT Practitioner with over 13 years of experience supporting people in healing and growth.
I began my career as a spiritual life coach, and over time, my work evolved into holistic psychotherapy rooted in nervous-system regulation, relational healing, spiritual connection, and somatic practice. My extensive clinical training is also complemented by training and faciliation in breathwork, somatic parts work informed by Internal Family Systems, and depth-oriented, earth-based frameworks that honor our spiritual connection with the natural world.
This work is not simply a profession for me—it is a vocation. I care deeply about the people I work with and the therapeutic spaces I create. Therapy with me supports you with integrating insight at a deeper, embodied level—so change can settle and last.
I am also the creator of Your True Nature Oracle, a contemplative oracle deck grounded in the understanding that our true natures mirror Nature itself: seasonal, cyclical, wild, and intentional.
who i work with
The clients I work with are thoughtful, intentional, introspective, and spiritually curious. They have done a fair amount of inner work already—often in more traditional forms of talk therapy—that served them for a period of time. At this point in their journey they are seeking something more than traditional talk therapy: a therapeutic experience that can support them to reach deeper layers and levels of their healing process.
Many clients spent much of their lives being “the strong one,” or “the perfect child” — hyper-vigilant, over-responsible, highly attuned to the mental, emotional, and psychological needs of others, and a history of managing or caretaking their parents or caregivers. Often shaped by early family dynamics, they learned to suppress their own feelings in order to maintain connection or safety. Over time, this can lead to chronic tension, anxiety, burnout, difficulty receiving support, struggling to speak up for oneself, and feeling guilty for having needs.
Therapy with me feels like a soft place to land—a space where clients can unfurl, feel held and supported, and cultivate deeper wells of inner safety, self-esteem, and self-trust.
Common Themes & Focus Areas
Many of my Connecticut and New York clients come to me for holistic, somatic therapy because they are high-functioning on the outside yet anxious, stressed, or emotionally activated on the inside.
Clients often seek therapy with me for support with:
Anxiety and chronic stress
Burnout and emotional exhaustion
Life transitions and identity shifts
Nervous-system regulation
Boundary setting and expressing needs with clarity
Releasing over-responsibility and chronic bracing
Developing self-trust and a felt sense of inner safety
Learning to receive care and feel supported
Healing patterns that insight alone has not resolved
Adult children of emotionally immature, narcissistic, or alcoholic parents
Obsessive or perfectionistic tendencies
Deepening one’s spiritual life and connection with Nature
Earth-Based Spirituality & The Living World
Your true nature is seasonal, cyclical, wild, and free
A central influence in my work is my relationship with the natural world and earth-based spirituality. I understand human beings as part of Nature—cyclical, seasonal, and deeply responsive to rhythms of growth, rest, shedding, and renewal.
This perspective is not separate from my clinical work; it informs how I understand the nervous system, emotional life, and healing itself. In therapy, this may show up through aligning one’s life with the cycles and seasons of nature, experiential practices that draw on the intelligence of the natural world, and engaging with Nature as a way to deepen one’s sense of belonging in the world.
This work is grounded, respectful, and always in service of nervous-system safety, meaning-making, identity work, and integration.
Potential Outcomes of Therapy
Most clients experience gradual relief and meaningful shifts over time and achieve their initial goals for therapy within 3 - 6 months of weekly or bi-weekly sessions.
As therapy unfolds, clients often notice:
Their bodies feel less braced and more at ease
They’re able to process difficult emotions with more ease and less overwhelm
They feel a greater sense of inner safety, self-trust, and empowerment
They are able to break free from long-standing relationship patterns ithey once felt powerless to
They feel more liberated, free, and connected to their true nature
If this way of working and these potential outcomes resonate with you, I warmly invite you to book a free 30-minute consultation with me.
FAQ: Somatic & Holistic Therapy in Connecticut (and New York Telehealth)
My approach blends somatic therapy, trauma therapy, anxiety therapy, and holistic mind-body practices to support deeper emotional healing. I work with adults throughout Connecticut and New York who want to regulate their nervous system, heal attachment wounds, and shift lifelong relational patterns.
-
Somatic therapy works directly with your nervous system, your body’s stored experiences, and the subconscious patterns that talk therapy often cannot reach on its own.
Instead of only talking about what’s happening, we explore how your body has learned to protect you — through tension, shutdown, overthinking, people-pleasing, or emotional overwhelm — and gently create new patterns of inner safety, groundedness, and self-trust.
It’s a deeper, more embodied approach designed for people who feel like “talk therapy helped, but not enough.”
-
My work is especially supportive for adults who are:
Seeply feeling, sensitive, or intuitive
Ambitious and hard-working yet overwhelmed or burned out
Navigating anxiety, trauma, or high-functioning stress
Stuck in people-pleasing, over-responsibility, or difficulty with boundaries
Wanting a more spiritual, holistic, or body-based approach to healing
If you’ve tried traditional therapy but still feel disconnected from yourself, this work could be a great fit.
-
Yes. I offer:
In-person therapy in Westport, Connecticut
Virtual telehealth therapy to residents of Connecticut and New York
Telehealth sessions include the same nervous system, somatic, and relational work as in-person sessions.
-
Somatic therapy is evidence-informed and especially effective for:
Anxiety stored in the body (tightness, knots, looping thoughts)
Trauma responses (freeze, fawn, shutdown, fight, flight)
Attachment wounds and relationship patterns
People-pleasing and emotional caretaking
Chronic stress + high-achiever burnout
Difficulty expressing needs or setting boundaries
Childhood emotional neglect or parentification
If your body feels tense, guarded, overwhelmed, or “always on,” somatic therapy can help you unwind the root patterns driving those experiences.
-
Each session is a unique blend of:
Nervous system regulation
Somatic exercises
Subconscious mind + parts work
Relational repair and boundary work
Spiritual psychology tools (when aligned)
Sessions are slow, grounding, and deeply supportive — designed to help you feel safer in your body and more connected to your true nature.
-
Most clients begin to experience noticeable relief and inner shifts within the first month.
On average, clients work with me for 3–10 months, depending on:
The patterns you are healing
The level of support you desire
Whether you move into deeper somatic repatterning
Many clients choose to continue long-term because the work expands their emotional capacity, boundaries, relationships, and inner peace.
-
If you’re craving a therapist who is deep, intuitive, trauma-informed, spiritual, and somatically trained — someone who doesn’t rush the process or stay on the surface — you will likely feel at home here.
The best way to sense our fit is to schedule a free consultation, where you can ask anything and feel into whether the space feels safe and supportive.
-
Yes. I am licensed in both Connecticut and New York, and offer virtual telehealth therapy to adults living anywhere in these states.
-
My fee is $225 for a 60-minute session.
If you’re looking for deep, sustainable transformation — not quick fixes — this work supports meaningful shifts in your body, mind, boundaries, and relationships.
-
I do not accept insurance, but I can provide superbills for clients who want to submit claims for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
